I recently purchased a new amp, Kenwood KAC-929 - 1000W, well actualy it was just yesterday but anyways im having a few problems with the system. The amp is pushing 2 Rockford 12" subs.

SPECS

Kenwood KAC-929

-Max Power Output(4Ohm)

* Normal---300Wx2

* Bridged---1000Wx1

Rockford Fosgate RFP3412

* Single 4 Ohm Voice Coil

* power range 50-200 watts RMS

* peak power handling 400 watts

PROBLEMS

The sound quality of the subs is horrible in my sealed box

In my bandpass box the subs for some reason doesn't sound louder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Ive had them setup with a total impedence of 2 Ohms but that hasn't been working to well either because the amp keeps shuting off....

SOLUTIONS?

anybody have any ideas what i should do?

should i get some more powerful subs?

DVC subs or 8 Ohm SVC subs?

Any help will be greatly appreciated....thanx

First off, and remember, this is just my opinion, but i hate kenwood's amps. Especially when it comes to subwoofers. If you wanna power those *****es right, get a class d mono-block amplifier.

The reason it sounds bad in the sealed box is probably because the box is either too big or too small. The reason that it sounds bad in your bandpass is probably due to either improper tuning or again, incorrect space.

The reason your amp keeps shutting off is pretty self evident. That amp is made for no less than 4ohm loads. Yes, it will work at 2ohms, but pretty soon the amp gets too hot and shuts itself off.

Your idea for either changing the ohm load is on the right track. That amp won't work right unless you get the load up to four ohms.....I'd also consider buying/building a new box while you're at it.

well i can tell you this much if he bought it at best buy then two options were at hand, 1 the guy didn't want to buy any of the RF amps which will do 2 channel's at 4 ohm's nicely and you can get like the 500s which we sell and run 2 4 ohm HE's which is what those are very nicely either bridged or not. anyway, yeah the amp won't handle that ohm load very well at all and yes you should get a new setup, now if you did buy it at best buy, just take them in and return it you got 30 days with them to return it my man. everyone hate's best buy except for me on this forum huh?

keep it thumpin,

First off Best Buy blows.....but anyways

When i worked their i got all my shit for my car, the amp i had before this kenwood was a rockford fosgate 500w 2 channel amp...for awhile that thing kicked....but then i decided to bump up the power so thats why i bought the kenwood one. But now the kenwood one seems to be a piece o shite....

For some odd reason when the kenwood is hooked up the subs cant hit half the notes they can with the rockford amp in either box setup....its kinda weird...the rockford amp sounds so much cleaner and louder....anyone have any ideas?

thanx

yeah it's for 2 reasons, 1 i've never seen that amp do anything near what it should seeing as how best buy sells it and i've helped install it it doesn't put out anything near that amount of watts. and the fosgate if it's like last year's model and you bought it from best buy it's putting out closer to like 700 watts i would assume since those amps put out way more than the # says it does. and if you worked at best buy when you bought that amp why didn't you buy that service plan employee's get them for like 4 bucks i know i did on my 1000 watt RF amp.

Hahahha....

That is true about the Rockford amp it does push out alot more than it says...i think the paper that came in the box said it pushed like 712 or something...and i did purchase the service plans too! Why wouldnt I? ive taken my subs back 4 diff times same with my HU, but dont knw if my amp is devo or not...so who knows....ill probably take back the kenwood amp for now...thanx for all your help

hahaha work at best buy and you know audio yet you use that crap? yucky puke junk barf puke gag...ect ect ect. and dont use the money excuse either these are toys and there are better deals on better things

i fried my 1000watt fosgate on 2 HE2 12"s and it got sent to service and came back so YES take it in to the service department and say send it to RF for me and they do. it may take like 3 weeks to get to you but hey if you like the amp it's worth it. and i used to use all fosgate stuff until i realized all i got was nasty SQ with a lot of SPL and wanted to spend more money also had more to spend. but yeah they are more generous with employee's since last june i've blown around 20 subs and swapped them out that same day, the manager's got kinda pissed but oh well i'm still swapping em out. like now i'm running 2 HE2's on my amp giving them around 600 a piece and they are gonna blow kinda soon i think:D i love doing it actually until i get my new subs.

keep it thumpin,

adam
