How do you guys listen to music with these kinds of setups that produce 1000+ W RMS? I mean I got myself a 12" Type-R with a 500W RMS amp feeding it and find myself turning the bass to -4 (range -5 to +5) on my Avic D3 just so I can enjoy music. If I turn it up more than that, the bass is too emphasized, my car shakes, and I don't like the sound that I'm hearing overall. And I listen to mainly rap/hip-hop!

I am therefore looking to downgrade to a smaller amp and sub combo. Looking to get a 4-channel amp instead - 2 channels to front components and then bridge the other 2 channels to the power a 10" Type-E.

Let me get your input guys. Thanks

Umm, hit up Walmart for an Xplod 600W (300rms) amp and one of those P5 subs. Set the gains correctly and you should barely know it's there. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sounds reasonable. All about specific tastes.

to enjoy music and you got big bass.. you gotta go wit some quality comp sets.. that way the vocals stand a chance against the bass.

I think he clearly states he has a set of components in his first post:

When I was younger, loud was more important to me than anything else. Now that I've gotten older (49), SQ is most important. I run a set of comps and a sub off of 450 watts total system power and my system will get louder (and stay clean doing so) than I'll ever use. Do I still listen to it loud? Sure, occasionally, but nothing like I used to. I want to keep my hearing.

Forget the sub then. Just get a strong set of comps. I've never heard someone say that a 12 with the bass all the way down is too much and still want to use a sub. If loud bass isn't what you want then save the money and trunk space and go without.

150's aint that loud... i like breaking the neon's hanging in the local Hooters windows... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

different days moods music types require different bass volumes.
nice to have it when you want it.
Was going to say that too. Hang on to what you currently have. I'm sure there will be days where you will want to blast the crap out of it, whether due to the mood you are in or if you want to impress someone..
