Too big of wire?

My friend just got a new car from one of his friends. His friend was running over 1000 watts in this car before he sold it. The buyer (my friend) wants to put a system in it...but only run around 300 watts. I havent seen the wire myself so im not sure what size...he said its pretty big so im guessing either 2 or 4 gauge. I don't think there would be a problem running a wire that is too big. But i figured I would ask on here just to be sure. So he is planning on running 300 watts through either 2 or 4 gauge wire. Is this ok?

I'm pretty sure it's fine to run big wire with a little power. My friend has been running a 600w amp on 1/0 gauge wire and it sounds great and has worked fine.

alright...thast what i tought. thanks alot guys. also, i believe i just sold my system to get something a little less powerful and more on the SQ side. Im thinking of going with a single 10". I want quick tight bass, but can pound decently on those songs with slower deeper bass. Also...looking to spend no more then 200. Im not looking for anything outstanding. Im looking towards shiva, idq, etc. What do you guys think?

the only problem you might run into is the wire is too big to fit into the amp. read the writing on the wire, it should tell you the size. most amps accept 4awg and smaller. so, if it is bigger than that all you need to do is trim the wire down so it fits into the amp terminal //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

actually...you'd probably be better off with a distribution block. i guess you could trim the wire, but that might become a little messy...i did have to trim down 1/0 gauge slightly in order to fit it into my mtx 81000d...but, for example, I would not use 1/0 gauge to power my usx-4065. just remember that larger wire will not hurt anything. -scott
