To use pre-amp or post-amp signal...

I've read through many posts and have seen where people have used both methods. The big question is...which one will provide a better signal path?

I have some new products on the way...DLS A7, Rainbow Germaniums (bi-amping off of 4 channels on the A7), and a Rainbow Vanadium sub on the way, and I want to make sure that I am able to reproduce the best signal possible.

I'm not sure if the oem equalization is being handled by the HU or the amp...still researching this on the TL forum.

The fewer components and processing in the signal path is generally the better way to go, so given this one should be able to take the pre-amp signal from the stock HU and use a line driver such as the Audiocontrol Matrix, or one of the David Navone products (or other similar products).

The other alternative is obviously going post-amp, and using LOC's, or a more sophisticated product like the Audiocontrol LC6. This is a very simple method, but if there is any funky EQ processing going on in the oem amp, you're simply going to pass this on.

Given the amount I am dropping on the DLS and Rainbow products, I do not wish to go the 3sixty.2 route.

So...any takers on this?

Thanks.

So what are you going to be using for sound processing ?

All that expensive equipment is going to mean dick if you aren't able to properly tune it.

I would be inclined to believe that any factory EQ or speed-based adjustments would be handled in the headunit....so I would guess you would be running into the same problems either way.

If that is indeed true (can't guarantee it), I would at minimum look heavily into the JL Cleansweep.......

But a system is only as good as it's installation and tuning.......

I would guess that the eqing is done in the amp and here's why: most factory HUs are used in multiple models of vehicle. In a lot of cases the HU doesn't change between the basic stereo and the optional "premium" system. The difference is the drivers and the factory amps for those drivers.
