To much power to sub

well if people would quit saying that clipping kills speakers.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

clipping does kill speakers you dumbass. do you think full on audible distortion doesnt kill speakers too?

actually, distortion does not kill speakers either.

i love when people call me a dumbass yet have no idea what background i have or the basis of my information.

answer me this: if a 70 watt amp is clipped to the point where it is producing 100 watts of power, handled by a speaker with thermal power handling of 200 watts and mechanical power handling of 150 watts (both max ratings of couse), will the speaker die? by mechanical power handling i am referring to in a specific enclosure of course, but the actual enclosure really has no bearing on the question.

are you still under the belief that a clipped signal is DC?

if it is clipping yes.

its pretty bad when people already know your a dumbass without knowing your background.

he is correct... clipping only kills subs when you clip them beyond the point of their handling abilities... cilpping an mt with a 100 watt max amp won't kill it

or does clipping also kill the voice coils because it is being sent a square wave?

thank you for proving my point.

i fear i edited my previous point too late to squeeze this in: do you still think that a clipped signal is DC?

just getting nasty with a couple treo ssi's with a pair of JL 500/1s, i would kill them just because of clipping, as will anyone if they are sending a clipped signal.

and for your power kills speakers rant, how is it that i could run a pair of treo tsi 10"s (200 watts rms per woofer) and not blow them with a zapco 1100.1?

because you never exceeded their max thermal power handling or their mechanical power handling in that particular enclosure.

because you can probably clip ONE jl 500/1 to produce close to 1000 watts easily...

my question is... is the power from a clipped amp at 1000 watts the same as the power from an honest 1000 watt amp? or is there such a thing as a "dirty" signal that would kill a coil...
