To insulate door or to get kick panels.

Currently running component 2 way Hertz speakers. They are in factory location. 6 1/2 in general door location. tweeter is located in the door as well. Curious as to what my best option is

Spend 200$ on sound insulation in the door. sealing it up and giving wonderful midbass and uh..quietness.

Or get the 3 way component version of what i already have and have A-pillars made with the mid/tweet crossfiring across the cabin. Ive heard good things about that, ive also heard unless you know what your doing, A-pillars tend to not be the best.

To get 200$ q-logic kick panels and install the speakers in there.

Ill most likely be getting a Deh-80prs in the near future as well so that will help with time alignment and eq'ing

Ignoring the doors is not going to diminish road noise, and kick panels do not automatically give you wonderful midbass. Every speaker location has pros and cons. Your Hertz speakers should give you the best midbass when they're mounted in well treated doors. Time alignment and EQ will help to focus the sound in front of you. keep_hope_alive is the best person to give advice about treating doors, and I've been following what's he's tried and it's worked for me.

yep, always treat the doors first. deadening, absorption, and seals are vital to getting a good sounding system regardless of what you run. build logs in sig all show that process in detail.

after you've successfully treated your enclosures (doors, kicks, etc.) then start evaluating the speaker quality.

A pillar install can sound fantastic in 3 way but the distance between them and the midbass may be tricky to deal with..... like the PRS 80 may not even be enough to make that work for you.

Q-logic kicks are great for imaging and minimizing effects of interference because it keeps everything in one place, but their drawback is midbass will be rather anemic even when sealed and deadened. I suggest they'd be best with a sub crossed pretty high, or with dedicated midbass drivers in properly treated doors.

You're on the right track, OP.

i hated my q logic kick panels, completely off axis and there was NO mid bass whatsoever and this was out of a Image dynamics XS 65 set. ran both active and passive.

q-logic panels will suffer from poor midbass response due to the material used, lack of seals, and tiny airspace.

if you use them to start a kick - then build the rear of the kick enclosure properly you can get good midbass.

this, i deadened the crap out of them literally not one spot was left untouched but they were such a horrible fit in my truck that they were practically free air just mounted to a piece of plastic.

yep, they are best used as a cosmetic over for a sealed FG kick - that requires removal of the carpet behind there and any other components in the area, in order to get as much airspace as possible.
