To divide or not to divide??? That is the Question

Hey all...

Got a little question for you... I have a 3 cu.ft. box that my two MA Audio MA120xe's are in. Right now i built it so that it is not divided and I was wondering if I divide it if it would make a difference???

Please leave your input... need all the help that I can get

if it was for me , i would have divided it ,

cause even if one sub got fried or whatever might happen , the other would work properly, wait 4 other replies tho

Right now they hit nice and low... but... they can have a tendency to kinda distort.

Would dividing help this????

you should get a small SPL gain by dividing the enclosure, i highly doubt it will be noticable to the ear, but if you are competing it would be a good idea.

Yes dividing would help. If you were going to use a common chamber i would build the total volume right at MFG rec's or slightly less than which would lessen or eliminate the distortion you said you are experiencing, unless it is from a clipped9distorted signal from your deck or amp). It also would reduce your low end. If you were to go ported you can go larger in the common chamber. That will give you back your low end and end up louder than it was..The down side is playing freq's lower than the tuneing freq will may also cause distortion from lack of control. That is where subsonic filters come in.

The MFG spec for the subs is 1.25 cu ft per sub max. I have it at 1.5 per... This is prob where I am getting the distortion...

yeah ---> so the best way now is to devide it man , and adjust the other side to fit 1.25 or -> 10% less
