Tinsel Lead Problem

I have 2 Phoenix Gold Ti12D subs and on one of them, one of the tinsel lead's is broken off...and the sub does not work. We tried touching it back on there temporarily and it went off and on as if the connection wasn't being made. But it did work when the lead was making a connection.....

However, when i took my other sub out of my old sealed box, to put in my ported box, i noticed that one of the leads was also disconnected from the outside terminal. But - the sub still works. Am i still getting full power to the sub? Or what? It's weird that it still works with it disconnected.

if you have a dual voice coil and 1 tinsel lead is broken (which is kinda what i understand from your post) then you are running 1 coil and could actually do more damage by playing them like that and burn out the motor.

Yeah i have a dual voice coil..Does this mean the sub is only getting half the power if it's only running on one coil? I could care less about the sub, my mag d2 is comin in on monday.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It depends on the VC config and also the amp.

if it was DVC 2 ohm then you woudl have them wired say 4OHM bridged to the amp, When one tinsel broke then the amp woudl only see a 2 ohm load and feed the sub more power. But if you had a DVC 4ohm and had it wired 2ohm on a d-class amp then the amp woudl see 4ohm and sedn it less power.

Eitehr way with it hooked up right, and wiht all tinsels hooked up, It should be better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Naw i'm tired of messing with the leads on these subs. The things have HORRIBLE lead slap and i believe that is why the line discontinued, with their problems with the lead slap..oh yeah, my mag d2 arrived here yesterday...it's sitting in the UPS truck right now but i can't get it cause of the holidays, how lame. Gotta wait till monday, so it sucks..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Heh, yeah. it's a dual 4 ohm...so i'm only getting about 250 watts to it.. And i thought it sounded good. The One sub ported getting 250 watts sounds almost as good as my 2 sealed that i had before. .. with 1000 watts..just goes to show you that higher watts doesn't equal higher loudness - i'm a true believer that the box is the sound now
