Time to upgrade! Suggestions appreciated

Hello all! I figure it's time to start planning an upgrade of my system in my xterra.

Reasons for this upgrade: better sound, clear / crisp bass, and more room in the trunk.

I currently have two 1222d type-r's in a 4.5 cu ft ported enclosure tuned at 32 - 34 hz (been a while, i got to look at my paper with all the doodling on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif) powered by an alpinw mrd-m1000 amp (1000w@2ohm).

I would like to swap out the two subs for one as well as grab some component speakers, and perhaps upgrade my head unit. This means I will be upgrading the wiring as well, which will give me an oppoturnity to do the Big 3. I will probably be keeping my amp, unless I find a deal I can't resist.

But I am truly stuck. I cannot decide which one sub is the best at replacing my two type-r's. I know that two subs > one, and I am willing to make sacrifices so I can get my trunk space back.

I was looking at the Type X, but realized I will need really good components with a great midbass to compenstate. I am looking for really good SQ that has a kick.

So... any suggestions?

something reasonable. I am not looking to throw 5 grand at my truck. perhaps 1000-1500 for the subs, amp, components, and deck (optional). this upgrade won't happen for some time, but i'd like to start saving up.
