I dont need the best, but i dont want the cheapest either.

Wanna stay under 200....im sure i can get a good one for that...and than find some bits.

Just wanna make sure this one fits a Jasper jig and such.

Thanks for the helps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D

I have the Porter Cable 693 with both Jasper Jigs.

the Plunge base router allows you to adjust the depth of the bit and change it relatively easily. That comes in handy when you are using the spiral upcut bit to start off by going 1/4" deep, make a pass, go another 1/4" deep, make a pass, etc. When cutting circles in MDF, you will generally make multiple passes, lowering the bit with each subsequent pass.

The fixed base is what you can use for your roundover bits and other woodworking projects that you perform with a router. With the fixed base, it does not adjust your depth so easily. It does some, but not enough to make circles.

Word of warning if you go with the Porter cable. Mine came with two 1/2" collets and the Jasper Jig is calibrated for a 1/4" bit. You can find some 1/2" shank, 1/4" bits, but those cost a pretty penny. Much more than the $12 1/4" collet.

If you get the jasper jig you need the 1/4 spiral upcut bit which is like 30bucks. I Only use Freud bits love them cut wood like butter I get them from home depot.

Yeah, exactly... Mine was supposed to have one of each and it came with TWO 1/2" collets. Talk about pissed me off because I couldn't obtain one locally for a decent price and I had trim rings to make.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

As for bits, I only own three bits, and I have already spent MORE money on the GD bits than on the router! Solid Carbide bits are NOT cheap.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

So what bits you think are good to start with just for cutting circles and rounding edges?

hey skip, i'm just across the river from you. I got a Craftsman plunge router and the jasper jig from parts express. also got a few spiral upcut bits and 1 flush trim bit. i would mind if you came buy and I can show you my stuff and how all of it works.
