specs look nice. Its Refurbed, but i've never had any problems with refurbished stuff.

im not a big fan of HP. I just got a Gateway from Best Buy. was around 580 after all taxes and setup fees....went ahead and got the $90 setup that included the backup CDs. But the specs on that laptop dont look too bad but then again it is refurbrished.

I run gateway. bare bones but solid little PCs. You paid way too much for that laptop though. Refurbs are a big money market these days. You could have done a lot better new. Itl be good if youre just browsing but I have a two year old machine with a 2.2 duo and it doesnt cut it for me. I mean its not a bad PC just probably a little pricey

The problem with gateways traditionally has been their stuff was proprietary, so you couldn't buy just anyone's video card, HDD or even CD ROM drive if you wanted to upgrade, you had to buy Gateway. Which they charged a pant-load for. I haven't looked at Gateways in a few years now so maybe that's changed, but it was always a death blow for me considering purchasing one of their systems.

Looks like a nice little laptop kman.

I just bought it and am not sure if I did the right thing.

What do you plan to do with it? I mean your not going to be doing any heavy gaming with it but if you just got it for a decent internet surfer or work laptop it should do fine. Have you ever owned a 17" laptop before? They aren't all that portable, kind of bulky and heavier than a 15.4". But again, it all depends on what your using this for, if you don't travel much then this shouldn't be a problem.

Im not a fan of HP. I bought one of their DV6258SE. It was on sale a couple years ago and I spent $1400 on it. Within the first 6 months I had it in my possession for maybe 2 weeks. It had 3 failed motherboards, 2 failed HD's, a bad keyboard, a bad heating plate, and the GPU was a lemon. Turns out they got sued over this model and had a recall unfortunate for me I bought mine 2 weeks before the recall took place and didnt get squat for it. My mom bought the DV9xxx series business model that was supposed to be an upgrade to the DV6 series. Same exact issues with it except no recalls on it.

During the time my laptop was in their possession they gave me the run around for nearly the entire time. They told me they had parts when they didnt, they told me I would receive the laptop from shipping and I didnt get it until two weeks later, and they refused to upgrade me to a different model despite the lemon laws.

I will never own anything but Asus or Sager. Ill pay out the *** ($1400 or so), but Ill get my laptop custom built to my specs (raid, dual GPU's, quad core if I want, etc), 3 year warranty at the minimum, and top notch customer service without the BS frills.
