I have an 02 lightning and I will only be running one set of speakers, 5x7 Boston Acoustics Fx8's up front powered by a hifonics zx4000, and I was planning on running 2 10" RE SE's powered by a hifonics bx1000d. Do you think that will be too much bass for a regular cab with only one set of speakers? Also how much will two 10" RE Se's cost? Thanks, Matt

i dont think ti will b to much bass. ive heard boston acoustics r good speakers and since its amped it should get loud and b clear. but if its to loud u could jus turn down ur gain and still keep it good tillu decide to upgrade. but i dont have expeirecne with bost acoustics so i cant tell u for sure.

10" RE SE's - ~$330 shipped (pair)

also if i were you i'd look into an actual component set. where are you going to put these subs anyway? do i smell a blow through project //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif lol jp.

i think they are amazing subs. in fact, they are... why do i know?

because i ran one for quite some time. and it is a beast. i would suggest the same as skep. dont get boston 5x7's or whatever. get a pair of ROUND component speakers (tweeter+speaker+passive crossover)

you will be much happier. even if they are 5.25" versus 5x7. just go get some of that thin pressure board - like really heavy cardboard\wood stuff thats brown? and cut a 5x7" hole, then cut a 5.25" mounting hole (its smaller than 5.25, like 4.75) and screw that into the stock location. if you can use thicker wood, use 1\2" MDF, otherwise - just stick with some 1\4" wood.

and whats an FX8? is that an 8" speaker? if so, you will certainly need to bandpass it so the midrange speakers dont get midbass, the tweeters only get highs, and the subs only get subbass.

exactly what size speakers are going where?

SE's are $160 each ($320) shipped to me in VA.

I was about to call RE yesterday to order a pair, but now I'm having second thoughts on whether or not it's too much bass.

I listen to almost everything (Iron Maiden and AC/DC to Gangstarr and the Three Six Mafia), so I can't just pick lots of bass or a little bass.

I'm thinking about just getting an HU or amp with sub control and getting the RE's anyway, and not porting the box. SQ is what I'm going for.

About your RE's, they can run 600 watts RMS and I believe 1200 peak (dear Lord, don't hold me to that), so you're looking at between a 1000 and 1500 watt amp.

Some amps I've been considering are the Viper d1500, Rockford Fosgate 1501 (heard a couple bad reviews though, not likely to go with this), and the JL 1000/1.

If I were you I'd get component speakers, they'll balance out your system a lot better.

Car audio isn't about the loudest bass, it's about balance. Hopefully someone else can back me up on that.
