Those who have subs/spkrs with...

As a rule of thumb, speakers double in price about every 10 years. What this means is the speakers you bought in 1976 for $200-$300 would now cost about $800-$1200 to replace with equal quality today. A typical repair runs about $60. That is about a 93% savings! You may be saying to yourself, "I can buy brand new speakers for $300". This may be true, but before you lay down the cash make sure you know what you are getting. One of the easiest ways to do this is lift the speakers to see how heavy they are. The odds are, the new speakers will probably weigh less than half what your old speakers do. This is because the quality of the parts used in older speakers are better. Therefore, they are heavier. The cabinetry itself is also usually much better quality. Even if you could buy new speakers for only $300 you would still save about 80% by repairing your speakers instead. What a deal!
