So how do they sound you may ask...well pretty good, but not unbelievable.
Both the tweeters and the mids have been matched almost exactly power vs power from my previous setup using the A5 and A3 (85w on tweets before, now 87.5w; 150w before, 150w now). The overall authority of the power feels nearly the same....basically too close to comment.
As far as the sound quality is concerned, I do feel that Kickers lack that sweet, effortless high frequency reproduction that the Ultimates had. I have pretty rudimentary critical listening skills, but I do listen to the same passages from the same tracks over and over and have identified several subtile cues. The Kickers definately get the job done, but I wouldn't give them an award for it.
In the upper frequencies with the amp driven hard, the music always stayed true with the DLS, but now with the Kicker's it seems to be more edgy and nervous....eventhough I don't think I'm hearing distortion (who know I probably am //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif). This indicates to me that some tuning is necessary.
The Kickers do a very nice job of reproducing the detail and transparency of the music, but seem to be less natural and pure than the DLS's did. Again I am being very picky here.
In the end I feel that I made a good decision to sacrifice the European flair for some badass processing that allows me to run a dedicated midbass and add a midrange driver. Having adjustable phase on every channel, 48dB/oct slopes, independant gains, and two amps that bandpass all at the touch of my fingers ain't too shabby //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif
