okay I currently have a dc xl 18 i blew running 4k rms to, If i where to get a soundstream 18 will it be able to take more of a beating then the xl like is the coil and soft parts stronger and will it out perform the xl and if not any suggestions

wtf why would you run 4k rms to a xl when they are rated to be ran at 1500 rms and the most people run for daily up to 2500 rms. Anyways I doubt it the xl is a though woofer but should not be run at 4k rms unless for some short burps.

I'd either get a custom built sub, or switch from a single 18' to multiple subs.

the funny part is the xl took it no problem either i was playing it for about a week like that I would ease on the bass knob with it and then I was just beating on it for 2 long to see its limits and it blew. so no one likes the soundstream 18

isnt the level 5 the same thing as my xl? my xl coil didnt melt, the surround didnt rip but it bottemd out and wont move, will the extra spiders help this?

Yes the extra spiders will help keep it from bottoming out plus the level 5 can be ran daily at 3500 rms to 4000 rms. It also takes burps no problem from 15000-25000, so I think you'll be ok running the 5 at 4000 rms. Also the xl has a smaller magnet and cannot handle as much power as a level 5.
