so against my better judgement i decided to pick up a kx1200.1 and 2 12" l5s for $150. not a bad price. so it sounds alright and it works fine. i turned the gain down on the amp and the bass boost all the way down. 10 minutes of playing them smoke is in my car and it smells like burnt voice coil and i look and one of the coils on the sub on the left is blown....cute right? thats kicker for ya, anyone have an extra l5? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

sounds like user error to me. A team kicker competitor used l5's with ss xxx10000ds and had no problems at all. that's alot more power than you running.

Good deal though, you could make that money back on just the amp!

Ya not kickers fault it doesn't sound like. Their amps are great and their subs go boom boom for cheap. Power them right and they're decent subs

I disagree with L5's being crap, I BEAT the hell out of 2 of them off a JBL gto601.1 and my wife had 3 8's in a BMW off an Autotek 900x. Great woofers imo sure you can get better but honestly they do well.

The issue with the L5's is that there is the L7's, which do the exact same job but better. You're stuck feeling worthless next to an L7. The Solo X is just so hard to come by that it's not too difficult to cope with an L7.

lol,trust me, i know all about pushing the l-series for all it has, since inception....... i have to take a little gentler approach on the build with the newer stuff.... that being said, a newer one that i traded to a friend is kickin azz on a directed 1200d for like 8 months now...and i beat the pizz out of it for a few years before that...... however, the verry first note i ever put on it nib bottomed it out, which shouldn't have happened, based on how the 4-spoke cones react...... and i smelled vc more often, too
