A lot of local shop owners also need to understand they got into an industry that is also a hobby. Many enthusiasts enjoy the DIY aspect of it, not just plopping down a thousand bucks and driving away with a stereo. People are becoming more educated on self-installing. Couple that with a failing economy, which will hurt a luxury industry like car audio first/hardest, and an OEM market that is catering to car audio enthusiasts more and more every year, and its plain to see the reason local shops are dying is certainly not just ebay.
Besides, iirc this topic started due to someone suggesting looking in the classified section of this forum, which for the most part supports used sales. If some local shop owner is against some people buying used equipment, well, they are simply living in a dream world.
