We are also aware of the real world differences between setups using capacitors and setups not using capacitors. Our diagnosis is "snake oil".

Speak for yourself. I HIGHLY doubt you know what a capacitor is used for and the differences it can make, if you did, this thread would not exist.

I don't recommend capacitors for power-stiffening use in a 12VDC mobile electrical system...

Otherwise, they're cool with me.
