Yeah, so today I realized that I gotta figure out how to attach the terminals to actual wire. I'm buying things one by one and should have everything bought withing a month or two for my first car audio install //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I searched forums and realized that crimping is the way to go, I love buying new tools //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and would not wanna beat the **** out of the wire on a curb with a hammer to get it crimped as a lot of people recommend, lol. I'm going with knukoncept 0awg for big three and 4awg for power wire and 12awg for speaker wire, so 0awg is the one that will be the hardest. I found these tools

I found these tools, but can't find much on this crimper, and would these cutters cut 0awg like stated or I would need something bigger ? I searched on 3 audio forums and not much one this crimper.

I used a hacksaw on my wire to cut it...worked fine. You can crimp it with a vise or a hammer and screwdriver.

I also made my own terminals out of copper pipe and a vice at one point; saved a bunch of money.

Like the guy above me said I'm sure there are cheaper out there, but this is what I use to cut Amazon.com: Techni-Tool Large Copper Wire Cutter, 3/0 Cap, 7 1/2" OAL: Home Improvement. They are great and slice through 1/0 like butter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.. I actually have the exact crimper that you showed the link for and it works amazing.. No effort at all and crimps a terminal in a matter of seconds. Only problem I had with it is no matter what dies I use it wont actually fit 1/0 like it claims. I found a way to make it work for them though just have to use it a little differently than it is supposed to be used. If you get it and can't figure out how to make it work you can pm me and I can send you some pics or short video on how to make it work... I'm sure you can figure it out though.

or you could buy razor blades and a torch
This too... Only way I've ever stripped 1/0 is with a razor, quick and easy. And soldering isn't difficult when you've had a little practice at it... I've just found myself in tight spots where I can't use a torch without ruining something and needed to attach a terminal to some 1/0 before so the crimper can come in handy.

wow, you guys are on a roll today :p so many replies so fast.

For those that said/recommended cheaper different cutters, these are $15 on ebay from different seller, but I'm in Canada and shipping is $15 to me, so it comes out to same price. Just think that they cost $15 :p here's other link..... KLEIN TOOLS 9-1/2" HIGH LEVERAGE CABLE CUTTERS, #63050 - eBay (item 180481370369 end time Apr-13-10 16:10:19 PDT)

And I'm strictly looking at crimpers....those who recommend hammer should not reccomend this method to others as I can't imagine this as serious installation (beating on your wire in a garage doesn't look like you know what your doing, even though you might be a god of audio systems or it looks like your cheap), soldering i'll just pass on.

I've never practiced at it, I just went out and tried it one day on my 4 gauge, and it came out great, I'll never go back now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well, sadly the first time I tried soldering on a 1/0 terminal it wasn't pretty lol.. But I melted it all off and re tried it and eventually got it right.. Now I can get it right on the first try lol.

the AVIC was a tad more complicated to wire not to mention stuffing it in a smallish stereo hole. thanks for advice.

Drill a hole and use the proper protective split loom and hole grommets to keep the outer speaker jacket from knicks and cuts, give just enough...

It mostly comes down to weight. You can have a super lightweight cone, soft suspension and aluminum coil on a sub and you pretty much get a pro...
