Not really. The point of the thread was to show how stupid the country is, and to show that no matter how far science and technology progresses, ignorance will always prevail.

There's also a difference between what America was founded on, and what it's becoming. America is quickly becoming a fascist nation, and it stems mostly from ignorant, religious zealots. Promote the choice to marry someone of the same sex, and you get chastised by religious morons. Promote science, and you get chastised by religious morons.

With so many religious morons in the country, how many of them do you think are also in Congress? The Supreme Court? Are you understanding anything that I'm saying, or are you still stuck on the "you disagreed with people so you're a communist" thing?

I'm all for believing what you want to believe, until that belief forces you to act in a manner that destroys lives or takes freedoms or rights from others. You can believe in creationism if you please(I'm talking generally, here; I hope you're not actually a creationist). Just don't start taking away the possibility for children to learn about real science, backed by facts and empirical data.

It's mostly from the Bible-belt and die hard protestantism that this country was founded on.
I think how the universe was created will be beyond human comprehension and that despite advanced sciences, we will never really find the answer to it. I believe in evolution because it's pretty undeniable, but I also believe in God.

One thing that pisses me off is when atheists point to Darwin as the basis of their arguments, when in fact Charles Darwin was a religious man. Science and God can co-exist.

Personally, I believe a supreme being created everything, but had little to do with how the universe developed.

**I am also thinking that the universe has pretty much always existed, it is infinite. With no beginning and no end.

This whole country is a cluster fuck of beliefs. That is one thing that makes this country great. You can pretty much believe what you want. It can also be our downfall when we are not united.

No, if you promote banning same *** marriage, you get chastised by people who care about civil rights. Is it not okay for two consenting adults to become legally married? The belief that gays and lesbians can't marry is an example of what I'm talking about. If you tell gays and lesbians that they can't marry, that's taking away their rights and freedom.

If you question some "science" you get chastised by leftists.

I don't know what "leftists" you're talking about, but science is always questioning itself. That's the whole point of science. What do you think scientists do all day?

Thank you. I think am a semi-deist. I am a confirmed Catholic, but I don't really agree that a man in a funny hat elected by normal men should dictate my religious beliefs. I also believe there are some miracles out there but are unseen. Like TC said, my beliefs are always changing.

I use religion as a moral compass. Like treating others well, not to steal, etc... That's about it. I went to Catholic school and even our religion teachers taught us that most stories in the bible are just mythos to help us understand how to live a moral life.

I completely agree with most of what you said there, and by no means am i a creationist but i am a christian. I also have seen atheist's that are pushy and chastise people of religion just as bad as any bible pusher.

Yes you are right about schools being able to teach any and all science, but in the same note should also be able to teach religion at the same time and not just christianity. But alas you cant please everyone and if you taught everything some body will be pissed and complain and have an uproar, so its best to simply avoid any debate on the subject simply to not stir controversy.

EDIT:

And on the gay not that also goes against the laws of nature in terms of mating so religion is not the only argument on that subject.
