Thinking on building an SPL system

I figure since this group here is mostly SPL supporters rather than Sound Q, I would be able to get a few responses.

I am contemplating on designing an SPL competition vehicle that will also need to be somewhat musical too. It will be used as a way to promote the sport as well as a way to reach troubled teens.

I want to use a mid '60s bug for the car. I know the electrical system will need to be upgraded, the engine probably modified to accept the larger alternator(s) and other things, but I believe it can be done. I would like to do 6-8 subs, no bigger than 12s, mainly for airspace constrictions.

I want excellent amps...I only expect excellence in my equipment, install can have flaws, but equipment must remain perfect. I know that in competition somethings happen like burned out amps, blown subs and whatnot, but that will be taken care of with on extra sub, one extra amp.

I know i have hit on some of the concerns some of you guys would have, but I am hoping for some positive feedback. My installer wants me to do a burp machine, but that takes all the musicality that the system can offer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Joe

I wish I had that much for my comp car. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Your best bet would be to go to termpro and explain everything there.

thanks man. I will do that.

now im not positive on this, BUT...arent the old bugs really small. Is he goign to be able to port 6-8 subs in there (assuming they are 12's) Id say something like 4 12" SX's...
i'd say type R's...

but it might get this thread put into the type R pile...

Of course, SX > type R no matter what my tests say //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

As far as 4 12's, I'd say thats a good call.

OnYrMrk if you'd like more details and UN BIASED test results of various equipment... PM me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

we have more decided that taking it to just spl contest might be a waste of a custom car, so we have toyed with the idea of doing 10 8's in sealed enclosures. Probably some fiberglass to tie it all in. I know that ported is the better way to get LOUD, but sealed and I can get musical too.
