Currently running a 12" Fi BTL n2. Love the sub and the output. But my original plan to save trunk space and weight, I've thrown out the window..

Vehicle is a 2007 Civic Si Sedan, this is a trunk build, so walls and anything in the backseat is out of the question.

So I'm considering switching it up. Same power, roughly 3k, electrical to support is as already good.

Keep the N2?

Swap to a similar high power 15.

Swap to 2 Fi Q 12s or subs of similar power (DC Lvl 4s, Sundown X, AA Havocs, etc)

I'm leaning towards the 2 12 setup, but would I really see much gain doubling the cone area? I know theoretically in a perfect world it'd be a 3db gain, but we know car audio definitely isn't perfect.

2 12's is not doubling cone area over 1 15.. You'll likely see a gain since it is more cone area (like 1/3 more IIRC) and 2 woofers can handle 3k better than one, even a beefy sub like the n2. If you liked your BTL the 2 Q's will probably get a bit louder and should sound better to boot.. If SQ isn't a concern for you, I'd go with the BL's because they are going to sound much more similar to your current sub.

he has 1 12 right now how would it not be doubling his cone area by adding another 12?

Correct, I do have a single 12 right now. In my experience I have not really care for the sound of the BLs, to me it was very different than my current n2. The q's have always sounded good to me. I also very much liked the XL I had in a 4th in a different vehicle. I haven't had any experience with Sundown other that at shows, and I can't say that they could necessarily be ruled out, I liked the nightshade and the X's.

Thanks for the opinions so far

Have you looked into ssa? either the icons or xcons should do well on that power. assuming you are going to run 2 12's
