Thinking of painting a box, will it look good?

Hey all. This chick that I am making a box for wants to paint the box black. My question is, what do I have to do to make this box look decent? For instance is tehre anything I can do to cover up the screws? Or will they just kinda blend in? What kind of paint should i use? Any advice at this point would be helpful. Thank you

What kind of wood is it?? If its mdf I wouldnt just paint over it. A friend of mine had good luck putting a coat of fiberglass resin over his mdf box, sanding it really good, priming and painting. Im sure if you sanded the mdf and primed it a few times if would give you a decent outcome though.

round the edges w/ a round over bit in a router and fill the screw holes w/ wood filler (wood putty). sand the box really good, this will make it look waaaaaaay better. as for the paint u can use basically any paint u want... spray paint looks ok if u get it even, u could roll it on but it would prolly have a texture to it, u could also brush it however u would have brush marks so if it was me id spray paint it.

Lol. If you want it to look good. Try a differnt color. Black shows everything. bondo all the holes and seams. And use some drywall stuff on the edges that show i forget what its called. Then primer and then paint. I would use a spray gun. Spray paint just doesnt have the power.

So lets see if I can get a good list going here. Use a router on the edges(doable, I like that look too), wood putty the screw holes, sand, then paint? sound good?

No. You need to do something with the seams. and you need primer.
Okay then so: Use a router on the edges, wood putty the screw holes, smooth the seams(using wood putty or drywall mud?), sand it, throw some primer on that *****, then paint it....good?

ok.

Step one fill in all the screws and seams with bondo.

Step two sand all the bondo except for what fills in the holes.

Step three rub the drywall compound or what not on the end seems of the mdf. This is a trick to keep the mdf from soaking up the primer.

Step four put on the primer.

Step 5 fill in any holes you might have missed or so be it with wood filler.

Step 6 sand that off.

Step 7 paint.

I highly suggest using a gravity feed hvlp gun. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif For primer and paint.

For step one could I use wood putty instead of bondo?
