Thinking of building another box......couple questions for the experts

I'm currently running an MTX 9512-44 in a 4 cubic ft box ported to 35hz, and while it hits amazing below 50hz, it's lacking some punch in the higher freqs. Well, the time has come to upgrade some, so I'm going to pick up another 9512 and 2 Memphis 1500d's to run them.

I've always run sealed boxes prior to this one for SQ, hence my lack of knowledge on ported boxes, but I'm debating sealed vs. ported on this one. I love the low bass note that I have now, but it's coming as a sacrifice to the hard hitting bass that I'm used to. I would like to keep the gain from running a ported box, but I would like to bring back some of the punch.

My question is: Will shrinking down the boxes but keeping them ported bring back a lot of the punch without sacrificing too much down low?

MAN thats a huge box for that thing. my first question is what do u have your LPF set on your amp. also bring the box down a cube or so might help the higer end of the scale

It's at 85hz right now, but I've played with it from 63 up to 100. Notes around 30hz will hurt you, but playing rock music, the kick just isn't there.
