Thinking about some new subs

hey guys. I know most of you will read this and just laugh at my setup, but bear with me

i am looking to change up my sound system. right now i have:

-2x alpine type R (12")

-a ported MTX box - 1.5cu ft per chamber

-and a single kenwood mono amp (900rms@2ohms, 500rms@4ohms)

i feel like these subs have their sweet spot, but any frequencies past that just lack (mainly at the low ends). oh and i am running these subs at two ohms to the amp.

my first question, is there a way to possibly get better sound out of my current subs? i would rather not get rid of them, just because i did just buy them all of a month and a half ago - but at the same time, i want my sound system to be all there.

but if i cant fix up my subs, then here is my next question.

what should i be looking at? I hear the 13W7's are sick. I see some of these Fi speakers that are ridiculous. I see the power handling for the Alpine type X are way up there as well.

which do you guys suggest. i mean i would sell of my subs and box, but i really dont want to be throwing down hundreds of more dollars right now. any suggestions?

-kyle

Build a proper box for them. Most pre-made boxes are tuned high, so with the next box, tune it lower. Get about 1200-1500WRMS for the pair. If you don't want to be throwing down hundreds of dollars right now, don't even think about the 13W7.

so if i went and built my own sub box, how would i go about tuning them? is there a site for building and tuning a box?

i have a 98 mercury sable.

Not sure how big that trunk is, but take some measurements of it. Find out what you want your box tuned it, ~30-~35Hz, and talk to the people that frequent the Enclosure Design & Construction sub-forum to find out the best size box, for your tuning and size requirement.

i am still new to the game. 30 or 35hz...? if i set it to 30, will that push lower bass than 35hz?

but i will most definatly bring this to the enclosure forums. thanks!

Supergumby5000 designed a 100% Perfect awesome professional for me and the 2 15"s goin in my explorer, I suggest you speak with him on getting a box made, he is a great guy to deal with.... as long as you know what your doing lol jk

edit: your lower freq bass notes will sound better with 30 than 35 that is why you see more competition based systems at a higher freq, because that is where they get their SPL
