Thinking about 8s - How would it compare to 12s?

Thanks for all the responses, other than the ones that went off topic.
I am kinda thinking of the "wow factor" Id love to have some little 8s that just impress the hell out of people.

And as far as people saying the same area as the 12s, well my CVRs are in tiny sealed boxes, like for a truck. Surprisingly they seem pretty loud in the boxes. I can get away with the box they are in right now for the car, but i dont want to go any bigger. Its in an 82 ***** am. And id like to keep the box below, or close to the top of the back seat so i can still see out the back.

But then again, with the 8s it should be alot easier to build a custom box in the rear "well" area for more volume for the box and still be out of the way. Im thinking i could easily fit 3 of them in there, if not 4. Then the thing is where will the ports come out if in that well area.

The DD site says the 1508s handle 500rms. But can i throw more than that at them daily? Someone said 1k rms daily and doing fine. But im kinda afraid to throw taht much power at such a small sub. Are the DD subs way underrated or what? Cuz i see alot of people saying they handle alot more than what theyre rated at by DD.
the 1508 will take a clean 1k daily just fine and will do more on burps. iam running mine(ava) on 1k in a 1cuft box tuned near 38hz. it quite impressive for 1 8. it did preaty good as well on 500rms to.

hmmm, I'm thinking about running 8's.
this is my new one, got a 6th order bandpass in the works for him.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Im really really thinking about 8's or tens. So if I got for would you say Id be safe with a sundown 3000? Im glad they got rid of that red cone, I hated it.
bro, 4 1508's in a good box would be sick with a saz3000d imo.

put the 4 in about 3-3.5cuft and tune it between 37-40hz and you should have no problem with the "wow" factor.

do you mean the red dd logo? the normal black dustcap and red/silver logo is standard. the platinum c/f dustcap with the black logo is an upgrade.

if you order from dd, you can ask them for black logo but i dont think they will put them on the standard cap plus you may not be able to see it.

yea

See now the box is the next thing im worried about. I dont know anything about ported boxes. I can build the box myself, with the dimensions and stuff. But all the designing for it and the ports and shit i havent got a clue.

i used to run 3 w6 8's from jl audio is a box tuned to 34hz and it could rock 146db all day with about 900w rms at 14v //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

we never burped it for DB as couldnt afford to have a spider assmb come loose or fall apart at that time.

even tho it was loud it will not give you the throw 12-15's will but if you like tight bass 8's are great

Im starting to think about the 8s again, but to be honest dont have the money to do it right now. This stuff would be in the rear of a third gen ***** am. Im planning to do a custom box in the rear "well" area or whatever you want to call it. I measured and it looks like i can get at max ALMOST 3 cubes worht of space before any ports or subs in the boxes. What do you think two 1508s could sound like?

Id stick with the crappy cvr's, but i cant even fit the two subs in there in that space, well i dont think i can get enough cubes to port it in that space.. Maybe i can try that space while sealed and see what it does.

Will the 1508s sound decent off smaller amounts of power also, or not? Seeing as how people are saying they will take 1k, which is crazy for such a little sub. I just think it would be awesome to have some little 8s and surprise the hell out of people with them.

Are we actually comparing Kicker to DD. Wow I am not a DD fan, but Kicker. Seriously? If you really want something nice that gets low, loud, and sounds good all at the same time look into a pair of Treo SSi 8s. I pulled just about a 140 with 1 8" SSi and 1000 watts in a daily box that got low. This was in a 4 door Jimmy with the sub all the way in the rear.
