Thinkin on doing a 3 18" setup SEALED. How would that sound?

Ryan, yours was one of the build that I liked, you had one in a huge *** box ported did you not. Did you ever try it sealed? Id love to hear your opinion on it being ported or sealed if possible. DOnt know how close the new MJ is to the old, ALl he told me was that they were making them inhouse now and some specs had changed.
I had mine stacked like a pyramid, with the port on the drivers side. I ran them pretty conservatively with just a Sundown 1500 running at a 1.3ohm load before any kind of rise. They could have taken twice the power I was giving them. For what it was, I was pretty impressed. Never ran them sealed though.

The setup I have now impressed OTHER people, I thought it was loud myself, but not musical for the type of music I listen to.

I just want to try a more SQ based woofer, and the Mj18 seems to fit the bill. Kind of just deciding if 3 of them getting full power, sealed, would still give a kick in the chest. Cause if I want to wall them, I wont have enough room for port.

Or I can port them low and have a huge box, still, with 6" or so around the sides and top of the box to allow air flow

Hell if I went sealed, I may just go full fiberglass, use the sides over wheel wells that I always build between go gain some extra volume.....

Dam that sounds like a good idea, I can get fiberglass for the cheap to.

If I go sealed, fiberglass MASSIVE box for sure

4 of them eh.... that could get hairy with room, I dont think I have 36" depth, with 3 I can still do the diamond with like 2 on the back left and right and one centered, with fancy schmancy angles and curves to. Heck I could do 4 I guess. I need drivers specs god ****it!!

If I did do 4, I could wire to 1 ohm I suppose, hoping the single visonik amp has enough balls to push them

Im liking the fiberglass idea though, I would need ALOT of glass, Ive only built a full glass enclosure for 2 12's before (audiobahns lol), and it took like7 yards IIRC. This would be 20+ and atleast 2-3 gallons

I get what you mean by clamshell, but what do you mean with diamond?
he means 4 planes constructed together in a diamond form, the subs firing into eachother, so if you do 4 18's, then 1 18 on each inner baffle. a lil tunnel

i think you should do a large sealed setup with alot of cone area, my friend tony used to have 12 12" L5's in a sealed clamshell, and when the bass hits a beat turned up it was close to ****ing unbearable, it was alot of fun driving around with the bass attacking your chest //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If I get my way, you will see an MJ-18M version that is optimized for sealed enclosures or IB only. This may fit your bill.

4, 2 or 1 Ohm configurations. There will be a few options available for folks with specific "needs". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Best,

Mark

Still up in the air on sealed or ported. If I did go full fiberglass baffle I would have a pretty big surface so I could always possibly add aeros later..... still need to here from them on box recomendations and such to see how big Im gonna have to make this box
