well today i had my 2 Phoenix gold ti12'ds poundin, and out of nowwhere one of them stops working. i have 2 dual 4 ohm's wired into parallel. the sub that stopped working was the one that the speaker wire goes from the sub to the outside terminal on the amp. is it possible that i blew it? i mean the signal from the amp is still going through the sub, as the other sub works just fine..so i'm not sure if i blew it, or what. i saw no possible easy signs for its failure, so i have no idea what happened.

quickest way to see if the VC is blown, IMO, just lightly push down on the cone...if it moves, then you know the VC isnt fryed, check something else. If the sub is frozen, scratches and grinds when you push down, you have a blown VC.

not always true...

DMM will tell you whether the VC is fried. while those are generally indicators, they do not define a melty voice coil.

those subs are notorious for severed tinsel leads. I can almost guarantee you that if you take it out, and play it , it wont play until you wiggle one of the leads, they get frayed and it sucks, happend to both my 15s

take the subs out and put a digital multimeter on each of them and see if the coils are reading right

Interested in learning this now, just in case for the future. What option do i choose on my DMM to check if my sub is alright? DCV? 20? Taking a guess, so im likely to be wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Set the DMM to Ohms, and touch the black lead to the negative terminal on the coil and the red lead on the positve terminal, and read the display. a 4 ohm coil can read any were from 3.6-4.5, but if the coil is blown ive seen a coil read 100 ohms or some unreasonable number. If you are still confused PM me and ill give a more detailed explanation.
