Been out of car stereos for years. Getting old! Finding myself wanting a little more on a budget here. Ive got amp bought Pioneer GM-D9601! Looking at Infinity 1062w woofers x2. I had planned on wiring them to 1ohm load but I fear that will be too much power. The Infinity specs were a bit misleading. So now thinking wiring at 4ohm load. Just curious to get everyone's thoughts which way to go 1 ohm or 4ohm. They look like they could be a good match together but not wanting to over power. Just looking for clean bass to accompany my music nothing over powering.

Sub specs:

Highlights:

•10" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils

•polypropylene woofer cone with large-roll rubber surround

•progressive spider design for excellent cone control

•frequency response: 25-400 Hz

•power range: 100-275 watts RMS (1,100 watts peak power)

•sensitivity: 91 dB

•top-mount depth: 5-7/8"

•sealed box volume: 0.75 cu. ft.

•ported box volume: 1.75 cu. ft.

Amp Specs:

•mono subwoofer amplifier

•500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (800 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)

•1200 watts RMS x 1 at 1 ohm

•CEA-2006 compliant

•Class D amp technology

•variable low-pass filter (40-240 Hz, 12 dB per octave)

•wired remote control adjusts variable bass boost (0-18 dB at 50 Hz)

•preamp inputs and outputs

•speaker-level inputs via supplied RCA-type adapters

•fuse rating: 40A x 3

•4-gauge power and ground leads recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier

•13"W x 2-3/8"H x 7-7/8"D

•warranty: 1 year

•Our 60-day money-back guarantee

drop to 1 ohm, set the gains for 800 rms via digital multi-meter method since that amp puts it proper power. You control how much power your actually feeding the sub via head unit input signal to the amplifier via head unit volume knob and amp gain settings. Look up the DMM method on google or youtube before you set your stuff. You can always turn the bass down on the head unit or amp if the bass is overpowering the mids and highs. Just dont treat the gain knob like a volume knob.

Box is prefab custom fit for my dodge ram. its about .05 cu ft bigger then it needs to be but thats not much. going sealed just want something punchy to highlight the rest. I know Pioneer makes ok quality so it should be fairly clean.

I watched the MTX video. If I my numbers right 800w 1ohm i come up with an output of 28.28v. Is 800w going to be over powering these too much?
Your fine, they'll take it as long as the signal is clean. They arent gonna see 800 watts anyways, accounting in impedance/box rise, voltage fluctuations and box design; I'm assuming your throwing it in a sealed enclosure (usually handles power better then ported but less efficient) and the power handling will increase if its in a smaller enclosure and decrease if its in a larger one. If anything you can always back down the dial. Easy safety test for subs is set it up, turn it on full blast for a 5 or 10 minutes, check how hot the sub gets then adjust again.

subs call for .75cu for sealed the prefab is right at .80cu. Headunit is JVC KDS100 low end I know but should work just fine. Space limited as its only extended cab pickup going under rear seat. Prefab box cheap enough to my door and fits well. I chose the infinitys just because ive always known them back in the day to be really clean with good SQ maybe they have changed guess Ill find out.

Wrong amp specs. I wondered where I got off on the numbers being too high. Makes me feel better now. Proper specs

Which amp did you buy, the 96 or the 86? In your op you mentioned the former and now you mention the latter.

Either way, the signal being clean really has nothing to do with quality. You can clip the signal with a $1,000.00 amp while not clipping it with a $100.00 amp. It has to do with the relationship between preamp voltage and input sensitivity (gain)... and you control that, not the manufacturer.

I bought the 86. JVC says pre amp voltage is 5v. The other fella directed me to the DMM method which Ill use as well. Audio has come along way from BBQ amps and 8ohm subs lol. Just something for me to show my kids im not a stick in the mud.

Not that it makes much difference but you won't get 5 volts of preamp from a low end JVC head unit. Probably could remove the words low end and still be correct, lol.

In any event, good luck with it. It's nice to see another old fart still interested in "all that noise" as they called it when I was young. I get some pretty interesting looks and comments when I go out to do demos and the young guys see an old hippy blasting hip hop. :)

Gonna bring this back up. I got it all installed wired the subs parallel for a 1ohm load although meter says 1.5-2ohms. Gain set at, normal setting bass remote set at about 50%. Bass on Deck is at 0. LPF set at 80. The issue im having is one of the woofers has a low volume rattle to it. I can turn it all the way down to just 1 volume and i can hear the rattle before there is even bass. Once i go louder i can still hear the rattle until the volume over takes it. This leads me to believe its in the woofer and not the box or something else rattling. These are brand new subs and amp. So curious of some things to check before I determine whats at fault. I believe I can rule out box, I also ordered some better RCA and speaker wire. Stuff that came with my kit was kind of cheesy. But if it were in the speaker wire I believe id hear it in both woofers?
