THE Thread

Altho i am a beginner , i do understand basic and some advanced electrical.

It would be better to get both. Cause the point of a Cap is to keep constant power to the system, and prevent electrical failure to the car and the system. Since the system is more likely to milk the battery and alt than the car. It would be a good idea to get the cap just incase ur stupid and dont wait that estimated 45 mins (understanding it was an example). Cause if your system DOES just draw too much energy than can be supplied by the battery and the alt (for larger systems or Peak usage), it can hurt your drivers and amp.

Right?

Right?
yea but if you know how to use your system then a cap will be uneccesary. a higher output alternator should almost ALWAYS have you covered.

I want you to look up what a cap is and tell us all what it is exactly! Or if you dont want to then maybe you can explain how a cap (a cylinder that stores power for short burst when your alt/battery cannot supply the need) has anything to do with your electrical system? It is hooked (depending on how you run it) between your battery and amp supposed to be as close to the amp as possible (hint) its less travel for the stored power, or I have seen it hooked to the alt for whateva reason its beyond me?

You also said a ca is to keep constant power....lol are you freakin serious with that statement....read up a little more bro and you will see a cap is no where near a battery....a battery gives constant power while being charged by the alt....a cap stores energy and realeases....

Thanks for the good comments guys.

Jeremy is right. End of discussion. He's getting antsy when you question his authority.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif naw not really, but if caps were so great then why wouldnt you have like 5 of them? I mean at cost depending on the brand cap you buy and brand battery you buy, but you can probably buy 5 caps to 1 battery.

Example: 1 yellow top optima battery runs about 150$. 1 lowest quality cap (dont remember the brand) cost about 15$. So with that in mind SubCool I want to see your setup with 20caps vs my 1 yellow top......same setup exact amp and sub combo 150amp alt everything same except he runs caps I run a battery/isolater combo.

Can I get some votes here who will win?

uhm....if you run your system with your car off....yes batteries will help. however, if you run it with your car on...a yellow top won't have a great affect on the overall performance fothe system. i don't know about you guys....but i've driven my car without my battery... (well, i started the car with the battery, but i didnt tighten the neg terminal down tight enough so by the time i made it to where i was going the terminal came off.) point is....your car is powered by your alternator. not battery. (when its running) obviously when its off its being ran by the battery....

your car is powered by your alternator. not battery
What powers your electrical system? What does your alt power? What would you do without a battery in your car at all?

I know this isnt the right area, but I figured I would get the most help here....

Where the hell can I look to get a bigger alt like a 200a?

your car will run, but not start...without a battery.. assuming that your alternator is functioning properly. it seems that its easier to get 200 amp alts for most domestic cars. ive had trouble finding anything above 150 amps for my honda....

your alternator is only powering your system if your systems draw does not exceed the available amperage. a properly functioning electrical system then, should not "require" a battery....

however, good luck getting an alternator to ALWAYS put out enough A and any given RPM to run your system... when youa re stopped, or at lower RPM's, the battery is usually supplying most of the power.
