The right box for a pioneer 12?

I have the new pioneer 12 sub. I built my own sealed box to match the right cubic for the sub. I have it in a ford explorer facing toward the back .It sounded good up front but when you opened the back up you couldnt here it at all. My local stero guy told my that ported boxes are better than sealed and a bandpass box is the best you can get. I put a hole in the box but it still sounds the same. I was told the q-logic bandpass box with the plexyglass front and holes in the back would help me alot but that cost around 80 bucks. Can somebody help with the best box to get even if a build it myself.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

Make a box 1.5cuft in volume, use a port 4'' in diameter and 8'' long.

Mount the box as far back as it can go (but don't block the driver/port) the bass loss as you open up the back is normal.
