You could be "forced" to pay a lot more if they choose to take it to court.

Certainly not! No need to destroy my credit history over this matter. Not to mention most people truely don't understand the full ramifications of taking such an extreme measure in this day and age. Ah they want you to settle. What the F are they using that settlement money for anyways??? It goes in there pockets with a huge grin on there face. Take it to court make them spend some money to If your going to have to might as well make them 2.

It's just too bad that if he did this he'd be paying a LARGE amount more. If they can prove it, and he gives them trouble, they can charge over $100,000 PER SONG...settlement is the only way to go, he's just got to try and talk them down as much as possible.

Ok....so all they did was look into your shared folder, they didn't actually bust you sharing any files?? If that's correct, I'd tell them to go screw themselves. It's not "illegal" to have the files on your PC, and it's not illegal to have the Kazaa program and folders associated with the program. So basically, until you actually shared the files you did nothing wrong. ANALOGY: Contributing alcohol to minors. It's not illegal to have it in the house with them....you just can't share it with them. Same thing you did. UPDATE! UPDATE! They're back like roaches!

Well it's been about a year and half since I last heard from the RIAA and their layers, and just Friday night there was a knock at the door and low and behold.....a process server was standing in my doorway with a one inch high stack of papers.......I was being SERVED! My lawyer and I have 20 days to respond to this matter....

As for those that were saying wipe my hard drive and all that, it wouldn't have worked because amongst all those papers were a quart inch stack that was nothing but page after page of photo print outs of the music in my shared folder.....labeled as exibit A

They were pretty thorough but we did notice a little something in their own evidence that will prove that I wasn't sharing any files, which is the basis of their whole case.
