I just received a letter from the law offices of MITCHELL SILBERBERG & KNUPP LLP

out of Los Angeles and they are the lawyers for Virgin Records America Inc.

In their letter they state that the Copyright Act imposes a range of statutory damages for copyright infringement with the minimum damages under the law being $750 for each copyrighted recording that has been infringed (shared).

They are also offerring me a chance to settle this matter out of court......Well I guess that I'll give them a call Monday and see just what type of settlement they have in mind......

Don't call them or say a word till you call your own legal advisor...

What software (P2P) were you using?

How many MP3s do they know you have?

My story to your attorney would be, I just d/l a few a long time ago to preview the songs, then I purchased the CDs of the ones I wanted....

Not really any different than going to one of those music stores that let you listen to the **** thing there all day then decide to Buy it or not...

A guy I used to work with went though this about a year ago...

He had a Lawyer call them for him and pretty much tell them they have no real case or proof, so stop calling and writing or there will be a ""Counter Suite" for Harassment...

As far as I know, he has not heard anything from them...

Just take your Hard drive and tear it apart. Destroy every last piece of it and then take a high powered magnet accrossed it and it will get rid of any data on there. As far as i know that is how you can destory data on a hard drive is whith magnetism.

I was thinking, and I got to the idea that even if he does all of these things and cleans all traces on his PC of downloaded materials....there is still one piece of evidence that will shred him........

This thread! If you get to the point of court make sure you clean your comp, install new NIC, all of the things that have been reccomended in this thread. And when you're done with all of that makes friends with a mod, and let this thread get trashed.
