Is it true that deleted files really arent deleted?

Is it true that after deleting temp files and history a computer expert/shop could still find out what sites people have been at? Isnt this how some murderers n that get caught?

If it's not written 7 times over (not the file but the location on the hard drive), it's still technically there. That's government standards - 7 writes over.

Only way to make sure that it's gone is to totally overwrite the drive with other data (multiple times) and then reformat. Or just do what the military does and take a sledge hammer to it.

Yes it is true unless the data is written over. When I delete files I use a shredder or a tracks eraser which overwirtes the data it erases with random code so nothing can be recovered.

Haha no I havent looked at **** in about 3 years just other stuff and my parents are talking about taking my computer in, should i just take the HD out and set it on my type-r magnet?

yes... there are a large number of free programs on download.com that can undelete deleted files.

It sure is still there..i just owned this person at work. They were on MSN, and someone sent them some pics...dirty pics of wang...someone else found them on the PC and erased them before i could see the date/time created and bust the person...so i DL some program and it pulled up all sorts of shit. Then i knew who it was and spead it all over to anyone who would listen...because it was pretty funny.
