well its that time of year to clean up the shop, and rid my self of all the scrap MDF from a summers worth of box building and installing! this is a temp box for my wifes truck. i started fiberglass a enclosure for a SR12 but got tied up with other projects( work, customer cars and building a garage) shes nagged me enough that i decided to chuck together a temp set up. it will be power by 1ch off here USamps XT1600.4. i had a BNIB RE RE8 kicken around so, $35 sub, free lumber and free time =

i guess i should coment on the out put as well!

i hooked this up to my MD3D, wired down 2 ohms. i didnt touch the gains, as the amp is burred under my sub box. first off the MD3D rocks my 15" SE. i was realy impressed with the power handling of this little driver. with the sub volume on my CD3100 at +3 the sub would start to pop and it did have some port noise, with the volume down to a sensable level, the sub was very musical and accurate for what it is, and for what i payed. the box is .48 cu ft at 38Hz and i couldnt belave that this thing could get low. bluebarry yum yum sounded great. it certinalu hit all the lows, with out a peep of port noise or mechanical noise. i was a tad concerned about port noise due to the small size of the port, wich was nesscary casue i wanted the box to be as small as posible. as it is the port is 27" long, with a bigger, well i dont need to explain the rest, you guys know! i did have to push this sub to get an acceptable amout of out put in my truck, i would say close to 400watts if i had to guess, but i think in the wifes SUV with 200 watts, it should have just the right about of fill shell need for now! all in all im very impressed with this driver, for the cost, power handling and the fact that it can get pretty low (lower then my MTX 7500 in a 2 cu ft at 40hz box did) and still remain accurate

Do you design all your own boxes?

That little box with the wrap-around port is a hell of an idea for a small area, or when you dont want to lose much floor space.

I wonder if it would work for 2 10's, with that bottom port going all the way across, and still wrapping up?

yes i design my own enclosures, and yes it could work for a pair of 10s, but lets say your box is 24" long, the would mean the port is 22.5" wide, and lets say the port is 1.5" tall. that would make for one helluva port length.

i played with this box for a few evenings on sketchup. i had to get max volume, with the shortest port length, but still have a port that would not have port noise, and look good.

22.5 x 1.5 would create some wicked nasty port noise IMO.

The rule of thumb usually goes: 1:9 ratio when it comes to ports. You want to try to keep inside of those limitations for the best response.

However, you can have it so it doesn't span across the whole box, so you could have a 12" x 1.5" tall port.

Or just do round port.

Round port not an option for me, slot or box only. I am thinking of building a new box for my wifey's car, I have a couple of old PR10's lying around here, and lots of short 3/4 birch. She doesn't have alot of usuable room tho, and I'v never built a box with a port on the bottom that wraps like that. Strong idea tho, I guess it works the same as a port on the side anyways.

ahhhh the beautie of sketch up! i figured it out with a combo square and sketch up. i us a foot long combo square, and move it towards the seat untill the top of the ruler touches the seat, then i mesure on the floor from the seat back to the bottem of the ruler of the combo square. i then plug it 12" tall and what ever the mesure ment was, i think it was 3" in this case to get my angle and build the box from there

very nice...especially for a "temp" box

that thing would look even sexier if you rounded all the edges (as you did the port)
