I agree totally (obviously) and I know some would have you believe it's only this administration doing it, but I would suggest every administration has done it to some degree. The real bummer is that government is so entrenched, and younger people have already become so jaded it will be nearly impossible for anything to change.

-Hey all you Oregon dudes, we should have a meet somewhere, that would be fun as he-double hockey sticks

It's all a big scam. It's a big scam that's aimed right at the 300 million or so Americans that don't see it coming.
What is the scam? Well, here's a piece of it. We now have a "Civil Liberties Protection Officer" who will no doubt be just as effective as the "Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board" that was formed in response to the September 11th Commission.

Oh wait - that board has yet to meet even once according to the Los Angeles Times.

Clearly, the government is all about going through the motions, but in reality is hiring the fox to guard the hen house. How can a "Civil Liberties Protection Officer" be expected to actually protect civil liberties when he reports to the Director of National Intelligence? He reports to the guy that he's supposed to be watching over!

It's also curious that if the administration is so concerned with civil liberties that they would be awarding yet more contracts to 'effing Halliburton to build "immigrant detention centers." Is it just me, or does setting up puppet committees and building detention centers smack a bit too much of something that happened in Europe around 1937?

Let's play "guess the author" real quick with a couple quotes:

Quote #1

"The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."

Who said this wonderfully slimy quote? Let's do multiple choice:

A. Adolf Hitler

B. Hermann Goering

C. George W. Bush

D. John Ashcroft

Quote #2

"To those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty, my message is this: Your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and diminish our resolve."

Go ahead and take a guess who belongs to this one:

A. Adolf Hitler

B. Hermann Goering

C. George W. Bush

D. John Ashcroft

Quote #1 came from Hermann Goering - Hitler's right hand sleazeball. Pay attention to how the US Government has been acting ever since September of 2001 - they had their Reichstag Fire in lower Manhattan, and just like the Nazis, they used it to scare the public into going along with their plans to consolidate power.

Quote #2 comes from no other than John Ashcroft, during the campaign to pass the Patriot Act. Notice how he's doing exactly what Goering says works everywhere - denouncing the people that don't want to fall in line as being unpatriotic, and being soft on terrorism.

I'm not here suggesting that the current administration schemed to cause the events of September 11. Don't even suggest that. I am saying that they are using those events to the fullest advantage to advance their agenda - put lots of money into the good ol' boys' big business pockets that got them there in the first place. After all, Halliburton and ExxonMobile just posted up record profits, which I'm sure has absolutely nothing to do with the no-bid government contracts, and the volatile price of crude oil due to ongoing war and uncertainty in the middle east.

It's unfortunate that in order to do so, they are bending the Constitution that they swore to defend almost to the breaking point. Oh, and then there's the killing people thing, but that's a different rant.

So here's an idea, you douchebags - leave our friggin rights alone. Stop listening in on phone conversations without judicial approval. Stop imprisoning people with no arrest warrant, no lawyer, and no charges as "material witnesses" and letting them rot in a Federal prison for god knows how long. Stop monitoring what people are reading at the library - it's none of your 'effing business. Stop with your "sneak and peek" searches of people's residences that you don't even have to inform them of. Stop sending The Man to do investigations of people for exercising their First Amendment rights by posting an opinion contrary to yours on the Internet, or god forbid writing a letter to the local newspaper editor.

Stop spying on your own god damn citizens, and instead do some good in the world, like stopping the proliferation of nuclear arms into the hands of unstable totalitarian murderous fuckers, which you seem to have been totally inept at thus far.

I'm done.

so when he says it ....its cool but when i say it im crazy ?

i love/hate ca.com

I think the lunar landing was faked by "THE MAN" to cover up thier secret meetings with space aliens at Area 51
Look outside. There is a black car with 2 gentlemen in it. They will wish to ask you a couple questions.

Don't worry you wont even remember the conversation.

Neuralizer FTW!!!

That and i am not claiming to be an expert, just stating purely my opinion, and people can take it or leave it as they choose- plus there is nothing in there I wrote that defies logic or common sense........or refers to some rediculous propoganda website

I think it is the way he went about things compared to the way you did it...
ORRRRRRRRR.....................It could be that ca.com is just one big popularity contest. If you're in the "clique" then your opinions are taken seriously. If you're not then you're branded as a radical or as crazy.

Not pointing fingers at anyone, just giving my opinion.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Are you saying I am "in"? I am finally cool!? SWEET!

Its funny coming from a discussion group with a Vietnamese man thanking god for the United States(Escaping death from firing squad three times for subversive conviction) and then reading a rant from an American demanding more from his country complaining about privacy. You can say MUCH MORE in the United States as opposed to most other countries... Be glad you are an American :p

We all have our likes and dislikes, but in the end, would you rather live here or elsewhere?'

You know you are doing something right when half the civilians in Iraq are happy a you are attacking their country.

I see you're point, and I am not saying this isn't the best country on earth, I just think when our rights are being violated and contrary opinions are viewed as un-american, and the polititans sell themselves as one thing to get elected and then play stupid partisan games while the real people of America get the shaft it pisses me off. I voted for Bush, and now am appalled at the sharp turn to the right he made after the election- I am really a moderate like most people. I think we need less government- people should choose for themselves rather than have a goverment choose for them. I thing a woman's body is her buisness and not the governments. I think the rich should get boned with the same IRS shaft the working class does. I think Bush is an imperialist, but there wasn't a better choice in the last election. I think the war in Iraq was a bad idea because it is a modern era vietnam with no end in sight, that said I don't know if Iraq is better off with Sadaam gone, but I am glad he is because I do believe he would have done anything to procure weapons of mass destruction and he obviously had the will to use them (gassed his own people remember) And just so you know, I served 6 years in the Marine Corps so please don't treat me like I am not understanding of the freedoms granted by this country, as I was a tiny part of the men and women who paid the price for those freedoms so everyone could enjoy them. I am saddened by the pussification of america and it deeply troubles me everyone is so concerned about feelings. I understand the government has a job to do, and they are doing it as best they can, but it is NOT okay for "the man" to do whatever they want- if they do this stops being a democracy and starts being a dictatorship. That is what I think.

I 100% agree with you, that our countrys democracy is fading. I also somewhat agree that we will never be able to win the war in Iraq... Our primary objective is complete, we should be out of there. You raise good points //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

The problem with leaving I raq now is that it then becomes another Somalia with things being run by the guy with the most guns- except we need the oil from these douchebags because soccer moms have to keep taking thier 1 kid to ballet and then run all over town in an 11 passenger SUV by themselves. This is why we are there- irresponsible people that don't get that we pay half what the rest of the world does for gasoline and stillcry and moan about the price, despite choosing transportation that is anything but fuel efficient. And for some reason a huge chunk of America doesn't seem to realize that all the oil is over there and as long as we contiue to be petroleum junkies we have to deal with these nations of fanatics that hate us. I wish fuel cells were a viable solution and we didn't need thier goddam oil and we could leave the area completely and let them duke it out with each other until they pick another fight with Israel and get pwt by them. I hate that we are there, but we are sadly stuck I think, and will be for the next 10 years- at least the body count isn't as awful as vietnam- if it was people might feel differently, but not different enough to take personal responsibility- few americans have any interest in that they just want to blame somebody else...

There is a big difference between Vietnam and the United States. Vietnam NEVER had the freedom so there is NO freedom to miss. But when Americans have always had the rights we've had and then someone tries to take them away it is a VERY BIG DEAL. I am glad I'm an American which is why I want my rights to stay the way they are without someone trying to take those rights away. GW and his regime are trying their best to help take away our civil rights and liberties. We have to stand up for our rights...............NOT just be thankful we don't live somewhere else.

You know you are doing something right when half the civilians in Iraq are happy a you are attacking their country.
Since when are half the Iraqi people happy.?? Which news publication have you been watching? Everytime I've watched the news or read the paper the Iraqi's are NOT happy with anything that has gone down.
