they used proprietary cpu's for years, they just started to let intel in, in the last couple of years, you could not upgrade there stuff in the past I have not used any new Mac's, but they seemed to have a lot of proprietary stuff in them a couple of years ago, did they not have there own socket MB'S and cpu's?

They used a different architecture for years and switched over to x86 just recently. They hardly "let intel in", it was that or rely on motorolla. It was a matter of staying competitive and gaining market share.
