The H.I.D. Thread

Here's a question: Why is it that, as with most other HID threads I've seen on car sites, out of all these posts, I count a total of two pics of the actual beam pattern to show how effectively the HIDs distribute light to the road. And that's more than I normally see. Most threads have nothing but head-on shots of the car with the lights on. I never understood the point of this since it tells absolutely nothing about how the lights perform.

Does anybody buy these things for actual function anymore or do we all just judge our HIDs by how pretty the color is and how much they blind you when you when you face the car?

The best HIDs cast light far, wide, and cast a beam pattern that rises reasonably high but then ends in a cutoff line that looks like it was marked with a huge ruler. PERIOD. The color of the light is incidental. If they blind other drivers that means you're throwing useless light to areas in front of you where you don't need it and taking pride in the fact that you're pissing other people off because you think glare=brightness.

some people buy them for looks, others buy them for performance. others upgrade their entire output and control the light that is given with retrofitting projectors.

i bought mine for looks/performance. just didn't want any color to mine.

some people just buy them to blind others with thinking their HID kit is cool yet don't realize how annoying their headlights really are to other drivers.

the only reason why you counted only 2 pics with output beam patterns is cause they are projectors that control the output. as how HID kits were ment to be run, in projectors. now the rest that didn't show an output it's cause there is no real control, it's just a big mess of light everywhere.

This is the HID thread, not how much your HID light the street thread, the street thread had no success cause everybody had pics of their headlight and none about how they perform //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Angled shot into the garage (my driveway is sloped).

Keep in mind the following pics were taken after a heavy rain so the puddles are causing some glare. All a good distance from the wall. Also the bulbs are also brand new so they may shift a bit more.

I want to buy some lights to put in the fog light and high beam slots to better match the color of the white/blue from the 55W Apexcones.

I know PIAA and Sylvania make something that might meet my demand, but I'm not sure. I also don't want to spend another 100 per set of lightbulbs.

The fogs (H3) are more important because they are on at the same time as the lows.

Jebus. Those are every company who makes automotive lightbulbs. I was hoping for some advice on which ones people have had good experience with and that would fit my needs.

Thanks though.

I posted those to give you a wide variety and let you price a deal that works for you. All the links I give you are reputable brands that many automotive aftermarket types have used. So you can't really go wrong with any that I've posted. And trust me there are alot more I could have posted but they don't have the same quality or reputation as the ones above.

Need an opinion. I can get a set of projector fog lights and an hid kit for them under 200$ total. Being that i have no fog lights now, would this be more effective than just getting HIDs and putting them in my stock halogen housing?
