Here's a question: Why is it that, as with most other HID threads I've seen on car sites, out of all these posts, I count a total of two pics of the actual beam pattern to show how effectively the HIDs distribute light to the road. And that's more than I normally see. Most threads have nothing but head-on shots of the car with the lights on. I never understood the point of this since it tells absolutely nothing about how the lights perform.
Does anybody buy these things for actual function anymore or do we all just judge our HIDs by how pretty the color is and how much they blind you when you when you face the car?
The best HIDs cast light far, wide, and cast a beam pattern that rises reasonably high but then ends in a cutoff line that looks like it was marked with a huge ruler. PERIOD. The color of the light is incidental. If they blind other drivers that means you're throwing useless light to areas in front of you where you don't need it and taking pride in the fact that you're pissing other people off because you think glare=brightness.
