dont be a smartass buddy
you know **** well why its the year 2006 AD, ANNO DOMINI (latin for in the year of the Lord) it defines an estimated date at which Jesus was born
Right, I was just going to ask if they knew what was so important an event that our entire system of dating is based on it......

Let me ask you this.....
If the earth is billions of years old....then why is it only 2006?

Shouldn't it be 3,486,142,901 or something like that?
Are you really that dumb? Do you honestly think the first people cared about what fawking year it was and took the time to make a calendar? Jesus christ your retarded...

It's obvious that nobody know when the Earth was made.....
Through science we can formulate close approximations, based on our observations and experimention.

Nobody knows how old the universe is

How big the universe is

Through science we can formulate close approximations, based on our observations and experimention....atleast of our observable universe.

How old things we're digging up and finding are....(since they keep changing the dating methods and hence the age)

Until somebody or something comes along and tells us

My preferance is to believe that that being is going to be the return of God and the rapture.........at which point i'll know the earth is about 5000 years old
Don't hold your breath.

I always find it funny how people have an extremely hard time "believing" theories based on our observations of the physical world and experimentation of those theories against our observations of physical world.....yet they have no problem believing a novel written thousands of years ago about the existance of an omnipotent, ever-present intelligent being supposedly created the universe and everything in it (yet he himself has no creator).

No, I don't think they did.....I'm just wondering what happened that was so huge an event......so important an occurance that they decided at that time to start keeping track........hmmmmmmmmmm.....what could it have been?

It amazes me how people have apparently lost all knowledge of the word FAITH

All I'm saying is that if you don't want to believe in God that's fine....your choice

I just hope, for your sake, that you're right.

Ask the incans or myans...the true civilizations that made the first calanders based on the positions of the stars and moon rather than the birth of a mortal...

Your just as bad as the religious clergy of the past that refused to believe the truth from Galileo or the other great minds of our history.

I believe 100% that the Incans and Mayans made calanders that tracked the stars and they kept time with them......

Why were those calanders swept aside and the Gregorian calander ushered in?

Was there a better reason?

Have you taken any archeology classes? Our brains evolved too. Humans didnt just appear with a written language rolling a wheel around. We didnt always use tools. We had no way of keeping written or verbal records because we had no language. Our only goal in life was to survive we didnt have time to sit around and think about the meaning of life. Our brains simply didnt comprehend it cause we didnt need it too.

It's obvious that nobody know when the Earth was made.......none of us were here then....I know I wasn't......

It will never happen. God has planned it that way on purpose...to spawn creativity and exploration amoung all His creatures. He just gets to set back and go for the ride!!

And actually, the Mayan calander is more accurate than the one in use today.

Why were those calanders swept aside and the Gregorian calander ushered in?

Because it was invented by a pope at a time when the Church was one of the most influential superpowers in the world.

So, to answer your question; completely because of personal bias. That is why it was marked by the birth of christ.
