Circumference = Pi*Diameter ...
Surface Area of a Voice Coil = Pi*Diameter*Height

Pi*2*2 = 12.566 in^2

Pi*2*2.5 = 15.708 in^2

or, put a simpler way ...

2.5/2 = 1.25 (or 25% more surface area) ...
