The big 3 just don't get it, nobody wants American cars.

I did not read the entire thread but I would still buy an American vehicle. Personally I don't feel like any of the Jap companies have the comfort or quality interior that american cars have.

They have come a long way in the past 15 years but still not up to snuff IMO.

You do realize that the Range Rover is American right? It's manufactured by Ford, using all American parts. The woodgrain is not real on that either. It's screenprinted vinyl and plastic. E for effort though.

I guess that explains the underpowered engine and the poor reliability ratings.

GM still has more American workers then any foreign company. Just because final assembly of a Nissan Titan is done in Tennessee, doesn't mean anything. The money still goes overseas. An American car is still designed and developed in the US. When you buy an American car, the majority of that money stays in the US.
That is what people have always failed to realize when bringing up the pathetically old "import mfgs have plants here" defense.

Look at charity donations even and the numbers on how much money stays here gets staggering. But lets ignore that.

Had quite a few GMs, a 99 monte carlo, still drivin with 150,000 miles as a daily, a 2003 Impala which had 150,000 and beat to hell when driven, was totaled in an accident, 2003 Monte Carlo SS with 44,000 and still goin, driven pretty hard, a 2007 Impala which is a little rough on the raod. but no major mechanical problems, some braking problems, but mainly due to how my dad drives it, he warps new rotors everytime we get new ones on and pounds on the car as a daily driver. And We had a 91 GMC safari van, but sold it after the original suspension finally wore out. I love GM's cars, I always feel comfortable and love the feel of them when you drive. Other cars just seem stiff or something on the road, really rough. But thats only a limited view of other cars, I normally drive. and to show what GM is putting out now...

hard to argue with that beast... I want one so badly...

It mostly comes down to maintenance, and how up to date the owner is. I always get all the fluids and such changed right on time or ahead of schedule, and havent had any problems with my 03 monte carlo SS (which is mine for a daily driver)

F the BIG 3. If they go down there will be 10 new American companies to take their place. Then maybe I can get a premium sport compact no a Cobalt SS or SRT4doesnt cut it althought the Sky is nice but why put that car under the saturn label, also the solstice is junk.

GM and Ford are known for selling trucks, gas guzzling its not a very good image. Im not sure how they operate but like I said before they should have world class in-house recycling operations so costs stay low and their image would shift to something more positive. steel, plastic, alum, glass, rubber, shit what else?

again Im not sure what they do but all retirees should be given their choice vehicle when they retire and maybe trade for new every 4 years and it would be negotiated into their pension.

Iwas watching the Auto Bailout Hearing on CNN and HFS is really ripping these CEOs a new one, . These guys have no plan for a chapter 7 or 11, expecting this 25billion to be loaned to them. Also the CEOs are not willing to take pay cuts to help there business. There claims of having more fuel economic cars than there competetion may be true but the fact is, no one wants a American car(s). People rather spend a few thousand more on a Japanese counterpart. I know I'm part of the millions who rather buy a Accord or Altima over a Malibu or Taurus. I rather buy a 350z or s2000 over a Mustang or Saturn Sky.
Also American small cars are a joke, Focus? Cobalt and that Dodge crossover thinga majig, . Seriously, these guys deserve to fail, nobody wants that garbage. While my local Nissan and Toyota make that money, the Ford across the street is stale, dust in the office and not a phone rang for hours. American cars are not the future as the big 3 so think.
Apparently someone does
"General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler LLC sold 8.5 million vehicles in the United States last year and millions more around the world. GM outsold Toyota by about 1.2 million vehicles in the United States last year and holds a U.S. lead over Toyota of about 560,000 so far this year. Globally, GM in 2007 remained the world's largest automaker, selling 9,369,524 vehicles worldwide -- about 3,000 more than Toyota.

Ford outsold Honda by about 850,000 and Nissan by more than 1.3 million vehicles in the United States last year.

Chrysler sold more vehicles here than Nissan and Hyundai combined in 2007 and so far this year."

prawned to the max

What will those employed by foreign automakers and their suppliers do?
WHile I don't buy foreign, I do encourage the competition.
yep, I work at a nissan dealership. Today they laid off the last person to get hired there at each of our 4 dealerships in our chain. They also cut out all bonuses for our techs. It was not an easy day to be working there. I was actually a little scared for myself as well as everyone else.

I don't really get into the whole import/domestic thing. I beleive that you should buy what you want. I drive a ford focus right now but wouldn't mind a 350z or a mercedes. Unfortunatly I can't afford either so the focus was my choice. Sure it doesn't have leather seats or 400hp but it does have 166,000 miles and still gets me 30plus mpg. But my buddies 12k dollar svt focus runs over 350z's all day and still has the luxuries of one. Point being: different strokes for diferent folks.
