It was always a niche market. It just used to be that the manufacturers tried to cater to all the segments of the market not just the mainstream.

The ones with the big price tags. You gotta pay to play. Unfortunately all the cool processing features cost a ton. Company realizes that they won't sell many so they make sure that those they do sell are really profitable.

Not any more. Really sad, too since they used to make the best such as the h701.

The really sad part is that as old as the h701 was the chips used in it probably dropped in price to the point that Alpine could probably still make a good profit selling it now for $300 retail.
