The acoustics of my vehicle (small SUV) ****!!

Yea, mine in particular.

I've already pulled out my super-human powers and spent the last couple months trying to "clean up" the "sweet spot" and it's just barely making progress.

Yea, I know the the automobile is the worst listening environment known to mankind, but this particualr one is kicking my a$$ to build the imaging and stage.

Also, no matter what I do to dampen the doors, they just will not help the drivers with the low midbass output. It seems to just get lost in outer space.

Can we get a group hug for AA (acoustics anonymous)?

Sincerely,

the least useful thread

P.S. What's the best woofer?

Just kidding

I posted this thread just to get it off my chest. I know it was fundamentally meaningless *heh*.

8 hours of straight system-work today (again) and still not getting the results I expect.

Thanks for listening.

Love always,

worthless poster

its small size is a plus believe it or not. going into the doors? never really a good idea without propper pods. kick panels would work alot better.
I appreciate the feedback man. It normally is. For some strange reason, this one is working against me (not the size, necessarily, but maybe all the other characteristics), and I can't put my thumb on it.

I've designed and built quite a lot of systems in shops and for myself, and this one has me the most stumped so far.

It's definitely not sounding bad, by any means, and it's loud as hello, but there are ranges at the listening area that are just booing. The door locations definitely help with the suckingness, but I'm trying to keep the truck to as close-to-stock as possible.

I've had better low-end from the doors of most other vehicles, so that continues to elude me too.

Thanks man

It is a 2003 Mits Montero Sport LTD. The doors don't seem different from the majority of what's out there. I have Dynamat Xtreme, both levels, plus acoustic damping pads throughout. Doesn't sound like I'm getting much resonation from the inside or outside skin. Did perform the ritualistic phase shifting on every speaker for optimization.

I think the midbass I'm after is going to require enclosed midbass drivers up front (probably on the floor at the front of the seats, firing forward or up). The stage, I'll try raising with a pair of tweets crossed over pretty high and positioned with a higher/forward focal, to draw it up.
