The Greek historian Herodotus wrote about Thermopylae, 300 Spartans and their allies actually did stand against the Persians in the beginning of the 5th century BC...the "Then we'll fight in the shade" line is actually directly out of the original text.

IIRC there was an original one that was inspired by off real events, then there was the comic that was based off the original movie, then there's this movie based off the comics...

troy was really good movie, but it seems like it was released a long time ago
