This is probably the worst packed box I've ever seen. A couple pieces of tissue paper to hold down a 57-pound sub. Great idea!

My first thought opening the box was "Jesus Christ, this is massive." Amazingly enough, nothing seems to be broken. I'm going to have to get some batteries for my multimeter tomorrow to see if it's blown or not.....hopefully not. No scratching noise when I press on the cone.

There is a 1.5" or so tear in the surround as mentioned in the auction, but I think it's fixable:

How much is a re-cone from JL?

I'd beat the piss out of it, knowing that even with a recone it's going to be cheaper than most W7's ever sell for //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Last time I called (about 4 months ago) to inquire about someone else's blown 13w7, they said $237.....so even after shipping and such, its under $450, which works for me.

just grab a 9V battery or a 12v cordless drill batter and touch the connections... if the coils are good the sub will move in or out. Also, who cares about the tear... it will have absolutely no effect on the spl our sq of the sub whatsoever. Just run across the tear with a light coat of ca glue or silicone to keep it from tearing further. Awesome buy!

If you use a CA glue, make sure that it won't eat the surround. I've experimented with CA glue (that I use for balsa planes) on foams, and you don't want to make it worse.

The foam on the 13W7 is much tougher than most foam surrounds (can barely tear it by hand) and the surround is attached to the cone of the W7 with CA, so I'm sure he will be fine. The only thing I would worry about is the fact that the tear is right where the ring goes, so if possible I would try to repair it from the back side //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
