read my sig..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifok here's my question:
in general, when you hear someone bumpin down the street you can normally hear them from a block or two due to the loudness.
....then you have the other type of bass. the kind where you don't hear anything, you kind of just think to yourself "wtf is that"... as the vehicle gets closer things start to shake and you can tell its just some deep DEEP bass.
now is this a combination of SPL and low tuning, or is this just basically based on size of sub, enclosure, etc?
i guess what i'm gettin at is... what creates each sound? loudness is one thing, but that rumble/deeeep bass that you FEEL before you hear... is that just pure SPL or more of a frequency type thing (ie the sub going very low)?
convert that for a noob=You're talking about different frequency bandwidths. The latter bass is more tactile, or reaching down to infrasonic, while the rest is higher in the audible frequency band.
you need to tune lower. i have a 12" RE HC in 3.6@29 off 1200 watts and it shakes my car pretty good and sorta creates that take your breath away kind of feelingyeah, a set of 12's can produce the "hear me comin"
what i'm talking about is the "omgz godzilla" feeling you FEEL, not hear. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
well i was planning on poppin the 18" xxx into a sealed box ~5cubes b/c from what people are saying, it will have a better frequency response and hit the lower notes better... i may lose some output (spl) but in general the SQ will be increased.you need to tune lower. i have a 12" RE HC in 3.6@29 off 1200 watts and it shakes my car pretty good and sorta creates that take your breath away kind of feeling
it gives people the willies if theyre sitting in my car and i play a real low tone
its funny to watch them freak out like theres bugs all over them or something

my bad, was thinking you were already tuned to 35well i was planning on poppin the 18" xxx into a sealed box ~5cubes b/c from what people are saying, it will have a better frequency response and hit the lower notes better... i may lose some output (spl) but in general the SQ will be increased.
they also said a bigger sealed (8-10cubes) will go even lower...
ported on the other hand can be tuned super low (29, 30hz) but when you do that you'll have peaky notes and the higher notes won't sound as good, especially being it is an 18.
I would love to see RE argue the use of subs in infinite baffle situations and I want them to tell all of the home audio nuts out there that their subs sound muddy because the enclosure has an infinite size. That is utter bullshit and they don't know what they're talking about.- going VERY large (8-9 cubes sealed) will go really low correct, but people were also saying (including RE themselves) that this can have a negative effect on other frequencies and may produce a "muddy" sound effect.
Actually, Ecstasy does that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
pull a steve meade and do 4 18s on like 16kwi thought i was the only 1 that woundered that same thing. look at my profile ive tried 4 kinds of set ups 7 still cant get it. now im loud as hell but not that sound he's talking about. i know what he means. i now have 4 15" in a 22 cubic ft box tuned @ 35htz.i had 8 12" in a sealed box on 8000 watts, still no good
