WHo says you have to have a need for something just to have it?

This is exactly my point. I am actually a gun toting republican like yourself, I just see no need to have assault rifles anyway.
I understand criminals will of course still have them, but it still just seems a little excessive.

No, just showing that such things do happen, and if you are one dood fending off 3 or 4 people with "assault weapons" it might be nice to have one yourself.

Its my feeling that I shouldn't be punished for the crimes of the bad guy, banning assault weapons will just keep them out of the hands of law abiding citizens, bad guys will still have them because they didn't really care about breaking laws in the first place.
