Testing signal to noise ratio

I was wondering if there was a meter you can buy or a way to test the signal to noise ratio of my car audio system.

Look at your amp specs.

Play a digital silence track, turn up volume, is there sound of any sort? (this is one way right?)

You would need a wide bandwidth audio voltmeter that goes to very low input levels, like an HP FL-400. You measure output at full power then measure the noise voltage with no signal and calculate the ratio as dB.

Realize though that 80dB SNR is 10000:1 so if the output is 10 volts the noise would be .001 volt.
