Tested my new HO alternator. Meter says 16V 1 battery installed on car.

Yes there was. I just asked to go with the 16V model not really knowing wtf I was doing before hand. I at the time just assumed more power. The regulator is working fine I'm sure of it. at 2000 RPM I can adjust the voltage.

oh. what amp are you going to be running, i think i saw you said your running DD subs?

You can still put a smaller pulley. This will cause the alt to spin at a higher RPM.The size is determined by the size of your crank pulley and your idle RPM.Most likely you will need a pulley that gives you a 4 to 1 ratio.

u'll kill all ur equipment man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif 14.4 is maximal safe voltage otherwise 13.8 is ideal

i dont know if it will work. if you do get a smaller one you have to watch yourself and not rev your engine high enough to go above what the alt can spin at.
Alts can handle up to 20,000 rpm intermitenly. So it shouldn't be a problem.I run a smaller pulley and have had no problems.

As for the factory pulley it will probably be larger then what he provided you with. You need to find out the size of your crank pulley in order to get the right alt pulley.Or just buy a smaller one since you know the one you have now isn't working. And you still have to take the alt back off...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Turning out to be more of a hassle then you thought it was gonna be huh?

Have you even determined you NEED more power at idle?

And just because the alt is resting at system voltage while at idle does not mean it would not put out power if the stereo was on and trying to drop voltage below 12.5 volts, for example.

Well thats good to know and no I didn't think I was going to have spend 4 hours each time doing this crap. I think the factory one is larger so yeah I do need a smaller pulley.

Generally an alt starts putting out good current at 2400 rpm alt speed. So if you idle at 800rpm you would need a pulley that gives you a 3 to 1 ratio in order for your alt to be spinning at 2400 rpm. When you first start your car it will idle slightly high and you will have good voltage then as it warms it slowly drops rpm to its idle rpm. This can be anywhere from 600-800 rpm on most vehicles with some exceptions. The size of your crank pulley will determine the size of your alt pulley as I have been telling you.Find out that and then you can get an accurate size alt pulley.
